Department overview<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Graduate Institute of Art History (GIAH) at National Taiwan Normal University was founded in August 2008. It comprised the former Divisions of Chinese Art History and of Western Art History, both then parts of the Department of Fine Arts. The two divisions, with their long histories, were then joined together as the independent Graduate Institute of Art History.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The Institute\u2019s objectives are the development of academic research in Eastern and Western art history and the education of first-rate graduates by providing them with thorough knowledge in Eastern and Western art history, a competence of critical judgment, a refinement of taste, and global perspectives. We want to enable students to promote the appreciation of art and commit themselves to the conservation of cultural heritage. The Institute\u2019s teaching and research capabilities comprise both Eastern and Western art history and art historical theory, visual culture, and the history of art exchange. We, furthermore, aim at fostering\u00a0international academic exchange and research in Europe and Asia.\u00a0By maintaining an excellent network with partner institutions, we are internationally well connected.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Thanks to its international core faculty, the Institute offers a\u00a0stimulating intellectual environment. In addition, international tenured professors and visiting fellows from abroad are invited to offer courses. In order to enrich the Institute’s curriculum and to complement education with professional experience, our team is further supported by researchers from the National Palace Museum, Academia Sinica, and other research institutes to teach as adjunct professors.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
