Finding Advisor<\/h2>

Thesis Advisers must meet the following requirements:
1. Thesis Advisers should principally be full-time, part-time, adjunct, visiting, associate or assistant professors of the Graduate Institute of Art History(GIAH).
2. If the requested Adviser is a non-faculty person, the student must seek permission from the GIAH director and request another joint-Adviser from the GIAH faculty.<\/p>

Research students requesting an Adviser must abide by the following principles:
1. The student should have taken at least one course given by the Adviser.\u00a0
2. The student\u2019s thesis should be related to the Adviser\u2019s specialization and field of research.
3. The student must submit a concrete proposal of his\/her research plan.
4. Once the student has officially chosen his\/her Adviser, the student should take advice from the Adviser on affairs regarding the content of the thesis and course selection.<\/p><\/div>

MA Proposal Exam<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

1. Application Date:<\/span><\/strong>
Fall semester: By November 30<\/span>
Spring semester: By May 31<\/span><\/p>

2. Examination Date:<\/span><\/strong>
All examinations must be completed before the end of each semester. Extensions to winter or summer breaks are permitted only with the consent of the advisor. (Effective as early as Spring 2026).<\/span><\/p>

3. Application<\/strong> Requirements:
<\/strong>Students of the Graduate Institute of Art History\u00a0<\/span>(GIAH) can apply for their Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Proposal Examination only\u00a0<\/span>when getting 15 or more credits (half of the credits required for graduation) and\u00a0<\/span>their advisor\u2019s consent.<\/span><\/p>

4. Examination Committee Members:<\/strong>
A committee composed of 3 to 5 members\u00a0<\/span>will be convoked for the Master’s Degree Thesis Proposal Examination. The committee should consist of GIAH\u00a0<\/span>faculty members (including full-time and adjunct faculty, or visiting fellows), and\u00a0<\/span>external members (non NTNU members). At least one-third of the committee\u00a0<\/span>members should be external members. The committee is convoked by an external\u00a0<\/span>member.<\/span>
The committee members should have one of the following qualifications:<\/span>
(1) Has held the position of professor or associate professor.<\/span>
(2) Is an Academician of the Academia Sinica, or has held the position of<\/span>
researcher or associate researcher of the Academia Sinica.<\/span>
(3) Holds a PhD degree and is recognized for academic achievement.<\/span>
(4) Has academic or professional contributions to rare or special disciplines.<\/span><\/p>

5. Examination Procedure:<\/strong> <\/span>
(1) Submission of an (approximately) twenty-page thesis proposal<\/span>
(2) Oral examination
minimum 70 grades is required for passing
<\/span><\/p>

6.<\/strong> Students failing the examination are required to repeat it within six months. Only\u00a0<\/span>one make-up examination will be permitted. Those who fail in the make-up\u00a0<\/span>examination will be ordered to drop out.<\/span><\/p>

7.<\/strong> According to NTNU regulations relating to master\u2019s degree thesis defense, any\u00a0<\/span>information about the thesis proposal examination should be separately and\u00a0<\/span>secretly sent to each committee member. Students taking the examination are\u00a0<\/span>forbidden from involvement in any relevant administrative affairs.<\/span><\/p>

8.<\/strong> Committee members\u2019 fees and transportation expenses are calculated in\u00a0<\/span>accordance with NTNU regulations relating to master\u2019s degree thesis defense.\u00a0<\/span>GIAH students may apply for subsidization of these fees and transportation for\u00a0<\/span>one defense, but in the case of having to make subsequent defenses, must\u00a0<\/span>themselves pay the fees and expenses of the committee members.<\/span><\/p>

9.<\/strong> This Procedure for Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Proposal Examination went into\u00a0<\/span>effect after being passed by the GIAH Curricular Affairs Committee and the\u00a0<\/span>GIAH General Affairs Committee. Any future revisions must follow the same\u00a0<\/span>procedure.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
