In such programs, all content delivery, instructor-student interaction, learning and academic support materials, as well as the presentation and assessment of learning outcomes, are conducted entirely in English.<\/p><p>Within our institute, courses in the Western Art History program are primarily conducted in English (with only a very few exceptions taught in Mandaarin), and some courses in the East Asian Art History program are also offered entirely in English.National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) provides relevant learning resources for English-taught courses. The detailed schedule is in accordance with the completion of the degree examination as indicated on the academic calendar of NTNU.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 5<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>Those requesting a Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense must submit the following documents:<\/p><p>(1) The application form for the Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense.<\/p><p>(2) A copy of each year\u2019s grade sheets.<\/p><p>(3) The certificate of the Thesis Proposal Examination.<\/p><p>(4) The thesis draft and its abstract.<\/p><p>The thesis draft and thesis abstract should be written in Chinese. A thesis written in English can be accepted, if the advisor considers it to be necessary. If the thesis advisor is one of the GIAH foreign faculty members of the WAH Program, a thesis written in English is required. An abstract written in Chinese is required, if the thesis is written in English. An applicant\u2019s other degree thesis cannot be submitted to the GIAH office as Master\u2019s Degree Thesis.<\/p><p>(5) One report on thesis originality from the online plagiarism detection system.<\/p><p>(6) A Declaration of Academic Integrity.<\/p><p>The documents mentioned above should be reviewed and approved by the GIAH director. Afterwards, the GIAH student who will defend the thesis should submit her\/his thesis and abstract to the GIAH office. The date of the Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense will be announced by the GIAH office.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 6<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>A committee composed of 3 to 5 members will be convoked for the Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense. At least one third of the committee members should be non-NTNU members, including jointly appointed and adjunct faculty. If the advisor is a jointly appointed or adjunct faculty member, she\/he would be regarded as one of the GIAH faculty members, instead of a non-NTNU faculty member.<\/p><p>Members of the Thesis Defense Examination Committee should meet at least one of the following qualifications:<\/p><p>a) She\/he should be presently or have been previously a Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor.<\/p><p>b) She\/he should be a research fellow of Academia Sinica, or should be presently or should have been previously a Researcher, Associate Researcher, or Assistant Researcher of Academia Sinica.<\/p><p>c) She\/he should hold a PhD degree and should have outstanding academic achievements.<\/p><p>d) She\/he should have been researching in a rare, specific, or practical field and should provide evidence of outstanding academic or professional achievements.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 7<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>The Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense is an oral examination. A score of B- (or 70 out of 100) is considered passing. Only one grade can be given by the committee members. The final score is an average of the scores of all attending committee members. If an Examination Committee member fails to assign a grade during the examination, the grade given shall be a failing grade of X.<\/p><p>If fraud or plagiarism has been found in the student\u2019s thesis and this has been confirmed by the Examination Committee, the failing grade of X should be given. Furthermore, the student\u2019s case shall be handled in accordance with the <em>Guidelines for Handling Violations of Academic Ethics and Research Integrity in PhD and Master\u2019s Theses.<\/em><\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 8<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>If a student fails the degree examination, but has not yet enrolled at the University for the maximum time allotted to her\/him, she\/he may retest the following semester or academic year. Only one retest is permitted. A grade of B- (or 70 out of 100) will be given for all retests. If the student fails a second time, she\/he shall be forced to withdraw from the University.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 9<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>Graduate students applying for a degree examination should do so before the last day allowed for the completion of the degree examination as indicated on the University\u2019s academic calendar.<\/p><p>Students, who have already applied for a degree examination and are unable to attend the degree examination in the respective semester, should apply for revocation of the degree examination for the semester. Failing to do so and not holding a degree examination shall be considered as a failing the degree examination for the first time. If a student has enrolled for the maximum time allotted at the University and is unable to extend her\/his time at the University and to complete a degree examination in the time remaining, she\/he shall be obliged to withdraw from the University.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 10<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>The amount of the committee members\u2019 fee and their transport subvention is in accordance with the NTNU regulations relative to the Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense. Each GIAH student can apply for the subvention (fee and transport included). In case she\/he takes the second defense, she\/he has to pay for the committee members at her\/his own expense (fee and transport included).<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 11<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>The deadline for thesis submission and the completion of school leaving procedures in each semester is as indicated on the academic calendar of NTNU. Students, who pass the Master\u2019s Degree Thesis Defense and submit the finalized thesis to the University, will receive the degree certificate issued in the same month. For the first semester of the academic year (fall semester), the degree certificate is issued in the period between the beginning of the semester and the end of December. For the second semester of the academic year (spring semester), the degree certificate will be issued in the period between the beginning of the semester and the end of May. The thesis should be submitted and the school leaving procedures should be completed within the prescribed time limit. Cases of missing these deadlines should be handled as follows:<\/p><p>1. Students, who have not enrolled in the University for the maximum time allotted, should register for the following semester and should, in that semester, submit their thesis and complete school leaving procedures ahead of the semester deadline in order to graduate.<\/p><p>2. Students, who have already enrolled in the University for the maximum time allotted and have not submitted their thesis and completed school leaving procedures within the specified deadlines, should be considered as having failed to meet the requirements for graduation and should be obliged to withdraw from the University.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article 12<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>Graduation requirements:<\/p><p>Each GIAH student should complete at least 30 credits for graduation, including required and elective subjects stipulated by the Institute, and equip herself\/himself with <u>required foreign language.<\/u> Please refer to the below attachment for detailed course requirements.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article <\/strong><strong>13<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>NTNU will cancel the Master\u2019s Degree that has been conferred to a student and announce the cancellation of the conferred diploma in any of the cases cited below; furthermore, if the student has been found to contravene other laws, her\/his case will be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations:<\/p><p>1. Making false statements or engaging in fraudulent behavior with regard to academic qualifications or academic experience.<\/p><p>2. Every instance of illicit fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, ghost writing, or other fraudulent behavior in the thesis.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article<\/strong><strong> 14<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>Matters not provided herein should be subject to the NTNU Regulations and other applicable rules and regulations.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"79\"><p><strong>Article<\/strong><strong> 15<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td width=\"564\"><p>These regulations concerning the degree diploma and graduation procedures go into effect after being passed by the GIAH General Affairs Committee Meeting, the related College Meeting and after being submitted to the NTNU Academic Affairs Meeting. Other amendments of the regulations go into effect after having been passed by the GIAH General Affairs Committee Meeting, and after having been examined by the Office of Academic Affairs. Any future revisions must follow the same procedure.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><h3>Course Requirement Guidelines for the Western Art History<\/h3><ol><li>A minimum of 30 credits are required for graduation from the Master\u2019s Program of Western Art History (WAH) at the Graduate Institute of Art History (GIAH).<\/li><li>Courses offered in the GIAH Western Art History (WAH) program are subdividedas follows:<\/li><\/ol><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>GIAH Common required courses (6 credits):<ul><li>Course required for all GIAH Programs: <em>Art Historiography<\/em><\/li><li>Course required for the WAH Program: <em>Techniques and Materials of <\/em><em>Western Art<\/em>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>WAH Program courses (24 credits):<br \/>2.2.1 Core Courses\u2014Methodology and Art Theory: Minimum requirement of 3 courses (9 credits). <em>Iconography, Introduction to the History of Architecture and Introduction to the History of Painting<\/em>.<br \/>2.2.2 Specialized Courses: Minimum requirement of 4 courses (12 credits).
