The origin of the symposium traces back to 2011 when faculty and students from the Art Program of the Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences at the University of Tsukuba in Japan planned to visit Taiwan for a study trip. To enhance opportunities for interaction with Taiwanese students, they entrusted the Graduate Institute of Art Studies at National Central University with organizing the symposium.

In 2024, the Taiwan-Japan Art History Graduate Students’ Symposium will enter its ninth year, once again hosted by the Graduate Institute of Art History at National Taiwan Normal University. This year’s symposium will feature 15 students from Taiwan and Japan, providing a valuable opportunity to present and communicate in English, fostering international perspectives.
