• Chinese Language Proficiency (for EAH):
  • Chinese proficiency certificate at CEFR Levels B1 (or above)

• Eastern Art History Program: The undergraduate degree program in Chinese or higher for one year or longer, please attach a copy of the diploma.
  • Not required for applicants whose native language is Chinese (self-statement needed).
  • Not required for applicants whose previous degree is taught in Chinese (proof required).
• English Language Proficiency(for WAH):
  • English proficiency certificate at CEFR Levels B2 (or above)
• Western Art History Program: GEPT high-intermediate or higher, Undergraduate degree program in English or higher for one year or longer, please attach a copy of the diploma.
  • Not required for applicants from English-speaking countries (proof required).
  • Not required for applicants whose previous degree is from English-speaking countries (proof required).

※If the applicant is of foreign nationality as specified in Article 2 under MOE’s Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan and has (or had) R.O.C. nationality, additional proof is required. Proof can be entry and departure records for the past six years, a declaration form stating that the applicant does not hold an R.O.C. household registration, Certificate of Nationality Renouncement of Republic of China or other documentation.

• An R.O.C Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) (if applicable)
• The applicant’s highest diploma in English or Chinese

※Eligible applicants who graduate in the same year of their admission to National Taiwan Normal University must submit transcripts for each academic semester, the enrollment certificate or the letter/proof of expected graduation, and the ‘Deposition of Admission Documents for National Taiwan Normal University International Applicants,’ and they are not required to submit the diploma during application. The diploma and transcripts for each academic semester must be submitted upon registration (Diplomas or degree certificates from China are required to have the documents notarized by relevant authorities.); otherwise, the applicants admitted to NTNU will have their admission revoked.

• 1. An official financial statement issued within the past three months from a financial institution.
  2. If the financial statement provided is not under the name of the applicant, please submit
     1. the guarantor’s financial statement
     2. a financial guarantee statement from the sponsor
  3. Proof that the applicant has been awarded full scholarship.

• Deposition of Admission Documents for National Taiwan Normal University International Applicants

• • ※Eligible applicants who graduate in the same year of their admission to National Taiwan Normal University must submit transcripts for each academic semester, the enrollment certificate or the letter/proof of expected graduation, and the Deposition of Admission Documents. They shall not be required to submit the diploma during application process. However, their diploma and transcripts for each academic semester must be submitted upon registration at NTNU (Diplomas or degree certificates from China are required to have the documents notarized by relevant authorities), otherwise the applicants admitted to NTNU will have their admission revoked.
  • ※Applicants applying with diplomas or degree certificates from China are required to have the documents notarized by relevant authorities. If authentication cannot be completed by the application deadline, please submit the degree certificate, complete transcript, and signed Deposition of Admission Documents.
  • ※Admitted students must submit the original documents for review to the Office of International Affairs on the day of enrollment.
  • ※NTNU holds the right to request applicants to have their degree certificate or diploma authenticated by the R.O.C. diplomatic missions should NTNU find any problem in the applicants’ documents.

Departmental Requirements

• Curriculum vitae: Western Art History Program: Please provide an English version of the CV.
• Research proposal: Eastern Art History Program: Statement of intent for application, including research plan and description of courses already taken. Western Art History Program: Statement of intent for application, including a description of courses already taken in English.
• Two recommendation letter(s): Eastern Art History Program: The letters of recommendation may also be in English or Japanese. Western Art History Program: Please provide the letters of recommendation in English.
• Any document that might be supportive: Eastern Art History Program: Documents can be in Chinese, English, or Japanese.

Western Art History Program: Based on the applicant’s level of expertise, the GIAH reserves the right to decide whether the applicant will need to take other relevant courses after being admitted. Eastern Art History Program: 1. Based on the applicant’s level of expertise, the GIAH reserves the right to decide whether the applicant will need to take other relevant courses after being admitted. 2. A few necessary courses for the EAH Program might be given in English. 3. Admitted students of the EAH Program shall take the TOCFL Level 3 for Chinese proficiency. Those who do not reach the proficiency level should take Chinese language courses as required.
